International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) is a United Nations-sanctioned day that is celebrated internationally on 3 December.

This year, the day is celebrating the challenges, barriers, and opportunities for people who live with disabilities, in the context of a global pandemic.

Since March 2020, every person on earth has been impacted by drastic political, social, and economic changes as a result of domestic and international responses to COVID-19.

This year, International Day of People with Disabilities should be used to recognize that people who live with disabilities are among the most affected populations amid the COVID pandemic.

Thames Valley Kings are proud supporters of International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) 2021

Further to the recent news that COVID-19 precautionary measures are once again to be strengthened - The national governing body of the sport, British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB) has taken the decision to make the wearing of face masks mandatory by all participants other than those who are actively participating on-court, this includes officials, coaches, team bench personnel and spectators.

BWB is also asking that any participant that has been in contact with a household member who either has COVID-19 symptoms (and not yet had a negative PCR test) or has tested positive from COVID-19 does not attend training or competition.

Kings have always adopted an extra cautionary approach with regards to BWB's Return to Play Guidance which has always been a clear priority that the health and wellbeing of all our participants within the wheelchair basketball community.

Updated Stage 4 Guidance and Matrix documents, as well as an updated Participant Risk Assessment can be found on the BWB Website COVID-19 Section.

We would also like to remind all spectators that the Kings are streaming all HOME games in their BWB National League Season on YouTube Live, with an additional encore presentation of the Premier League game occurring on Twitch a few days later.

Today is World Kindness Day

A day where we highlight good deeds in the community because Kindness is the common thread that unites us all

For our wheelchair basketball community, we highlight fairness, teambuilding, equality, discipline, inclusion, perseverance and respect.

For our wider community, we highlight respect for the rights, differences, and dignity of others, honesty and integrity in dealing with all members of the community and above all, accountability for personal behaviour.

We can make a better world - it starts with kindness.

Four years ago in 2017, we announced are entered npower Winter Wonderwheels,
the UK’s first festive disability sports event

Six years ago in 2015, In our first National League Season, We travelled into Wales to face the Cardiff Celts, with Celts taking the win 46-22

Nine years ago in 2012, We were in Junior League Action at Hertfordshire Sports Village against Celtic Shock and South West Scorpions. We came away with one win against Shock 24-13 and one defeat 5-23 against scorpions.

A fantastic day of Junior League action was had by all today, sometimes the score lines don't reflect the grit, energy, and determination shown by the young players of this sport - both Titans and Aces players gave their all today.

The kids just all had fun and it was fantastic to see.

A huge shout out to Kings' Jamie and George who did a fab job for first-timers and to our experienced juniors who welcomed them and guided them every step of the way! Every single one of them was bloody fantastic today - They played like the team they are all aspiring to be! Showing what good teamwork, hard work, and camaraderie can do!

Finally, A huge congratulations to the young Aces lad who got their first-ever Junior League basket, it was fantastic to see the smile on your face when the ball went in.

We would like to thank the Aces for their superb hospitality.

Kings will be sitting out the next round to be hosted on November 20th, but we hope Titans, Aces, and Bears have a cracking time.

We're already looking forward to hosting round 3 on January 15th and look forward to welcoming Aces and Bears then.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re calling on everyone to open up to mental health, to talk, and to listen.

We all deserve to feel safe and supported when talking about our mental health. But too often, mental health stigma leaves people feeling isolated and ashamed. At worst, it prevents people from getting support, finding employment, or having open conversations.

Attitudes towards mental health have improved, but the stories of many are still not being heard or understood.

That's why at the Thames Valley Kings we built a successful partnership with Chris Hunt, The FUNdamental Coach to not only bring the best out of our members on the court but also support them mentally too...

Also, we have an awesome safeguarding officer and team in place to help provide links to relevant organisations that could be useful to assist you.

Kings more then just a Club....

Lets take a look at what was going on at this time in the past in this week's #KingsRewind!

In 2013 - Four Kings members (Including Future Paralympian Kayla Bell) represented England South at the 2013 School Games at the EIS in Sheffield and won Bronze Medal!

In 2015, we played out first ever game in Division Three (after two seasons in the development league) of the British Whellchair Basketball League - welcoming the Cardiff Celts to Kennet Leisure

In 2017, Kings Supporter and Table Offical Vicki Thomas, challenged herself to fundraise for us - the self-confessed non-runner running a 5k for us.

and finally, in 2019 - we announced our first event in our huge 15th anniversary celebrations - an all-day fundraiser to be held on October 5th 2019.

The Thames Valley Kings would like to congratulate both Men's and Women's Wheelchair Basketball teams after the paralympic competition.

The men did brilliantly to capture their fourth bronze from the past five games.

The women including Kings Alumni Kayla Bell fought to 7th Place.

There is plenty of hard work ahead before Paris 2024 and Kings as part of an amazing club network hope to continue supporting and developing world-class wheelchair basketball talent.

PUTTING FIRE IN THE BELLY!πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

We understand the importance of getting children into having a healthy lifestyle at a young age and we believe wheelchair basketball can be a key activity in a rich array of sports and physical activities.

That's why we love this quote from one of our new junior member's parents

"The wheelchair basketball sessions at Thames Valley Kings have been fantastic for My Son

Not only has he loved the sessions themselves but we've noticed amazing carry-over benefits into other aspects of his life such as increased confidence in his regular wheelchair use and a
new vigor in his adaptive rock-climbing

One of the instructors said wheelchair basketball had given Him a real 'fire in his belly'"
